WORKING NAME Project Shakergate GENRE Political fiction.

LOGLINE Print the truth and raise hell.

SYNOPSIS Shakergate, Maryland was designed in 1893 as a “planned community,” bordering Washington, D.C. Railroad racks divided the lower, middle, and upper classes into segregated neighborhoods. When only Wasps lived in Shakergate, it was America’s wealthiest town —— so powerful it rerouted a highway.

In 2024, Shakergate is mostly Black and Jewish, ruled by liberal, Democratic women who welcome any person regardless of “her or his” background. The schools embrace voluntary busing, a gay pig represents equality, and the United States Constitution is “modernized.”    A conservative newspaper editor moves into Shakergate to “print the truth and raise hell.” He discovers unspoken secrets: Bodies are missing from a cemetery, bureaucracy barriers exclude Blacks, and a young girl’s murder remains unsolved despite rumors that a ghost searches for a buried knife. The editor runs for mayor, promising to knock on every door —— from the poorest to the richest. People begin to reveal their secrets, even though . . . Big Sister is watching.
